Large Early Southern Stoneware Jug, attributed to Thomas Owensby, Union District, South Carolina. Chip to spout, glaze pop. Well-formed jug having exaggerated pulled handle on highly ovoid body. Thomas Owensby, who had trained in Edgefield, carried the alkaline-glazed stoneware tradition into the Union district in the first half (circa 1820) of the nineteenth century. Measures 9 1/2"x9 1/2"x18". Weight 14 pds.
