Railroadiana and Original Railroad Art
Rail & Road Auctions is pleased to present Day 2 of our January Railroadiana offering, taking place Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM Eastern. This sale continues with additional material from the Edward Egan Collection offered alongside complementary consignments, expanding the scope of the series beyond dining service into whistles, railroad art, locomotive hardware, lanterns, furnishings, and premium display pieces. Together, the two days form a broad and varied cross-section of American railroad collecting. The foundation of Day 2 is anchored by a strong selection of steam whistles, ranging from single and multi-chime examples to larger tube whistles, with pieces spanning multiple diameters and tonal configurations. Highlights include a Southern six-chime tube whistle, a New York Central three-chime locomotive whistle, and additional large-format single and multi-chime examples that reflect the mechanical presence of steam-era railroading. The larger whistles in this session are part of Rail & Road?s ongoing Sound It & Sell It program and were blown at full operating steam pressure on Nickel Plate Road No. 765 this fall. Videos documenting each whistle in operation will accompany the respective lot descriptions. Day 2 is further strengthened by a notable group of original railroad artwork, including an original Howard Fogg watercolor and an original Harlan Hiney watercolor and gouache painting. Both works depict winter railroad scenes, providing a timely visual connection to the January setting of the auction while bringing a graphic and interpretive dimension to the sale that complements the physical artifacts with artist-driven documentation of the steam era. Railroad china remains an important component of the second day, with Santa Fe service pieces and Fred Harvey dining car china featured prominently.
