The auction house is good but they charge high buyers premiums on their lots. It's 5 % cheaper to bid on their site but 17 % is still too much. They could do better with shipping costs as well.

I had purchased a number of items from this seller during a single auction. Several of the items were framed artwork, covered with glass, as typical for these kinds of items. The items were large and heavy. Suffice to say that the items were insufficiently packed in picture boxes, with a just + single layer of bubble wrap +. Just how the seller could expect these items, one of which was original artwork on canvas, to arrive unscathed, still confounds me to this day. The packages were shipped by insured UPS and arrived promptly. As any five year-old would understand, drop a heavy piece of glass or hit it with other potentially heavy boxes, and it’s gonna break. And shatter they did. As you will can imagine, shards of loose broken glass did no justice to the original artwork-it was destroyed in transit. Another picture arrived with broken glass and the corner of the frame damaged on account of insufficient packaging. Upon arrival, I immedialy called the issues to Derek Thomas, the owner of the auction house. While he was very congenial and offered to assist in processing a claim, he totally and thoroughly deflected any responsibility for the damage caused by his company’s failure to properly and safely package my purchases, placing the blame on solely upon UPS. The items were insured and the insurance company was swift in processing the claims and reimbursing me for the purchases and shipping fees. All said, if you are purchasing a fragile item from this seller, especially if it’s glass you should have zero expectation that it will arrive in anything but throw-away condition. Just be sure that your purchase is insured for full value and that you have empty space in your dumpster.

I have dealt with Rail and Road Auctions on numerous occasions, and have always been pleased with quality of the service received. Derek and his crew have been great to deal with, and I will most definitely continue to be both a buyer and a seller with them.

Variety of RR stock offered is usually wide and of high quality. Effective on-line software w/nice real-time auctioneer pic-in-pic. Great people. Only 1 minor concern: I don't like packaging 'peanuts' (which I know help defray costs, lol). I'll deal w/it because they're worth it. AF
