The Stephen White Space Collection

Stephen White's Los Angeles gallery for fine art and historical photography opened its doors in 1975, one of the first in the United States. He became the founding president of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers in 1979. Always ahead of the field, the gallery represented and exhibited 20th century and contemporary photographers as well as 19th century pioneers. In 1990, he sold his entire personal collection and inventory to a Japanese museum. Since 1990, Stephen has devoted his time to collecting, writing, researching and curating. He has curated or co-curated exhibitions at the Van Gogh Museum, the Palais Tokyo in Paris, and many American museums. A number of the photographs in this sale were included in the catalogue and exhibition Skydreamers: A Saga of Air and Space, at the Autry National Center, Los Angeles, December 2010 to April 2011. Unless otherwise stated, all photographs are vintage prints on fibre-based paper.
