Doyle at Home including 20th Century

The October 12 Doyle at Home auction offers a wide selection of quality American, English and Continental furnishings and art with moderate pre-sale estimates. A special section will be devoted to fine furniture, decorations and paintings of the 20th century. Among the selection of Modern furniture and decorations will be a group of extraordinary bronze cabinets and wall hangings by Philip and Kelvin LaVerne. Also featured will be a selection of Paldao cabinets designed by Gilbert Rohde for Herman Miller, Thin Edge furnishings by George Nelson, and notable pieces by Robert Venturi, Vladimir Kagan, Jens Risom, Mies Van der Rohe, Pierre Paulin, Eero Saarinen, Warren MacArthur, Andre Sornay and Catherine Memmi, among others. Included in the decorations will be a glass and ceramic Calla Lilies vase by Herman Kahler, a Normandie chrome plated metal pitcher by Peter Muller-Monk, and a silver plated ice bucket formerly in the collection of Andy Warhol. The fine art section includes American and European paintings, drawings and sculpture from the 20th century. Featured among the paintings are Les Salles Basson d’Ardachon by Guy Bardone (French, b.1927); The Bonfire of the Vanities by Mark Kostabi (American, b. 1960); Exchange by George Joseph McNeil (American, 1909-1995); and Study of a Man by Ernest Tino Trova (American, b. 1927), as well as the ink on paper, Coney Island, by Paul Cadmus (American, 1904-1999). Among the other artists represented in the sale are Andre Bauchant, Miguel Ortiz Berrocal, David Burliuk, Paul Cadmus, Leon Dabo, William Gropper, Robert D. Kaufmann, Leon Kroll, Ben Shahn, Moses Soyer, Raphael Soyer, Joan Thorne, Victor Vasarely and William Zorach.
