Wine Legends

Wine Legends An Exceptional Private Collection This exciting sale represents the passion of a European client who has been collecting wine since his thirties. A discerning man, he was drawn to wine as a link between three of his other passions: nature, fine food and art and as a means of expressing his love of bringing people together in a warm and convivial atmosphere. Initially, he explored the global world of wine with the eclectic enthusiasm suited to a well-travelled man but, as his collection developed, he has come to focus it on his love of European, and particularly French, wine. Inevitably, as with anyone following their passion, the cellar has filled up and indeed over-filled, despite regular forays into it with friends and family. Now, over two decades later, he has realised, admittedly with some reluctance, that it is time for a judicious thinning out. This sale represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire wines from across the world that are virtually all ready to drink, having been stored carefully in perfect conditions, either in his home cellar or in professional storage, since he acquired them. A collection such as this, with truly something for everyone, does not often come to market. Here you will see vintage Champagne dating back to the 1970's, red, dry and sweet white Bordeaux from legendary vintages and Chateaux; stunning Burgundies including Coche-Dury and Domaine d'Auvenay; Rhônes from Rayas and Chave, and Barolo and Barbaresco from the famed cellars of Gaja, Giacosa and Giacomo Conterno. There is also a stunning collection of the finest wines from California, as befits a man who has spent a lot of time on the West Coast of the United States. The majority of wines in this collection were purchased in the US and have Soutirage tags.
