Silver & Plated Ware

Welcome to our December sale of silver featuring a varied range of antique and modern silverware. Silver holloware highlights include a beautiful Art Nouveau tray by the silversmith W. G. Connell (lot 6) and an ornate turn of the century Chinese export kettle and stand by Luen Wo, Shanghai (356). The auction includes a large range of modern silver photograph frames perfect for a Christmas gift (lots 228-237) and continuing the Christmas theme with a Stuart Devlin Good King Wenceslas surprise box (lot 513). The novelty section is packed full of rare finds, in particular an array of enamelled pieces. Look out for the concealed erotic enamel cigarette case(lot 540), sure to attract enthusiastic bidding. The auction also includes a microscopic sculpture of a nude female by Birmingham artist Willard Wigan MBE (lot 487), who creates his sculptures in a meditative state in which his heartbeat is slowed, allowing him to reduce hand tremors and sculpt between pulse beats. A personal favourite however would be an unusual Victorian vesta case realistically modelled as the head of Mephistopheles (lot 612). If you would like more details on any of the lots please visit our web site or contact us directly and we will be happy to help. We are also delighted to announce the next specialist sale of silver on the 18th of March and welcome interest in consigning.
