Jade, Decor & Objects

Mark Lawson Antiques proudly presents a diverse summer auction featuring over 150 Chinese jade carvings, European porcelain sculpture, antique and estate jewelry, and a rare group of 1930s Swedish modernist furniture by Axel Einar Hjorth. Among the highlights is a special group of three lots relating to Audie Murphy, America’s most decorated combat soldier, offered with detailed family provenance. The jade collection, acquired in the latter half of the 20th century and held in a single private collection in Upstate New York, includes archaistic vessels, scholar’s objects, animal-form sculptures, figural groups, toggles, and gold-mounted pendants. Complementing the jade are fine examples of Chinese export porcelain, cloisonné, and decorative ceramics, along with silver filigree and enameled jewelry featuring jade, carnelian, turquoise, and coral. Estate jewelry highlights include Victorian gold-filled lockets, photo charms, compass fobs, and vintage watch chains. The European decorative arts category includes Augarten Wien Spanish Riding School figures, along with pieces by Nymphenburg, Rosenthal, and other renowned Continental and English makers. One of the premier features is a rare, cohesive group of Axel Einar Hjorth “Birka?? furniture, produced in the 1930s for Nordiska Kompaniet. The Audie Murphy group includes his WWII dog tag, a framed photo with handwritten inscription, and a leather Western shirt believed to have been worn on screen. All are consigned by the family of his close friend and collaborator, Scotty Turner, and accompanied by materials from the Audie Murphy Research Foundation. Spanning continents and centuries, this sale offers something for collectors, decorators, and dealers alike.
