Pablo Picasso: Master Drawings
Wright is delighted to present a single-owner collection of works on paper by Pablo Picasso. Each work represents a milestone in the artist's legendary career, from a 19th century academic portrait of his boyhood friend, Hortensi Güell to Nature Morte au Gramophone drawn in 1908 when Picasso began experimenting with cubism, his most important contribution to art history and the style for which he would forever be defined.
A 1942 portrait of Picasso's mistress Dora Maar, entitled Buste de Femme, is a cubist tour-de-force exhibiting Picasso's full maturity as an artist at the height of his powers. Le Peintre et Son Modèle, drawn only three years before his death in 1973, is a seminal example of the painter and model theme Picasso relentlessly explored in the last decade of his life. Also of note in this special collection are two aquatints, Tête de Femme I and IV, 1939). These important works by Picasso are complemented by a selection of intimate photographs of the artist by Arnold Newman, Peter Rose Pulham and Andre Villers.
