POST-WAR FOLK ART
Miller & Miller Auctions Ltd.
Don?t miss the excitement beginning on February 12 at 5pm. Our sale of folk art features important works by notable Canadian folk artists from 1950 to present. Works have been curated to include artists from Quebec, Ontario and Maritime Regions. We are excited to offer six fresh-to-the-market works by Maud Lewis including Springtime in the Maritimes; one of her earliest masterpieces that shows Maud at her best. Several renditions of Everett Lewis works are included - many offered by original owners. The quirky and fabulous Joe Sleep is well-represented. Significant land, sea, and waterscapes by Canadian master Joe Norris are featured, including ?Penguins?, similar to an example illustrated on page 31 of Bernard Riordon?s Joe Norris: Painted Visions of Nova Scotia. Also included are three exceptional works by Cyril Hirtle, each photographed with the artist. In addition, we have a number of prime Maritime carvings. These include multi-figure carvings by the ever-so-hard-to-find Charlie Tanner, others by Collins Eisenhauer. From Ontario, the line-up is colourful featuring two special works by Barbara Clark-Fleming, select works by Ewald Rentz, alongside other notable artists. Quebec folk art is well-represented in this sale with several Wilfrid Richard works, and carvings by the unmistakable Edmond Chatigny, and others. Finally, the Yukon mastery is represented in two images by Ted Harrison. Each comes from the estate of Harrisons friend and dentist. Many other works featured in this sale come from single-owner estates and long standing collections; not a sale to be missed.
