Art Nouveau & Art Deco

June 2026's inaugural Art Nouveau & Art Deco auction at Lyon & Turnbull focuses on exceptional examples of glass, figural sculpture, lighting, graphic design, and decorative arts. The sale opens with a group of printed works by the leading Art Nouveau designer Alphonse Mucha from a private collection. These iconic compositions almost universally feature female figures framed by flowing arabesque hair, while many depict the celebrated actress Sarah Bernhardt, one of Mucha's most famous muses. A collection of works by the sculptor Georges Flamand is similarly characterised by elegant maidens with long flowing tresses, reflecting the movement's fascination with feminine beauty and symbolism. Alongside these works, a private London collection of cameo glass by the masters ?mile Gall? and the Daum Fr?res highlights both makers' enduring love of flowers, foliage, and the natural world. The sale also includes a number of pieces by the renowned Ren? Lalique, whose career spanned both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. The stunning pair of Passiflore chandeliers epitomises his visionary ability to create forms that remain as striking today as when they were first conceived. Beyond France, the sale features favrile glass by the American master Louis Comfort Tiffany and iridescent glass by the celebrated Bohemian makers Loetz. Graphic art is represented by posters from the pioneering designer Jules Ch?ret, often regarded as the father of the modern poster, alongside works by the British genius Aubrey Beardsley and the iconic French artist Jean Dupas. The sale concludes with an impressive selection of sculptural works in ceramic and bronze. Art Deco dancing figures feature prominently, with strong representation from Dem?tre Chiparus, Josef Lorenzl, and Pierre Le Faguays, as well as notable female sculptors including Claire Jeanne Roberte Colinet (CJR Colinet), Aurore Onu, and Gerdago.
