Old Barn Auction Prehistoric Artifacts

This old-time collection was begun by Berwell B. Thomas in the late 1800's. He died in 1944 at the age of 83. He was very concerned the way that the relics of The Ohio Indians and Mound Builders were being sent to foreign museums and vowed early in life to forestall this to the best of his ability. His son Emslie Thomas (1892-1971) took over the collection and continued it until 1971. It was moved to an old doctor's office which was brought to the farm from Townsend, Ohio in the early 1950's. Most of the relics are from a four county area: Huron, Ottawa, Lorain, & Erie Counties. There were a few pieces from Tennessee. The collection eventually totaled 30,000 pieces. We will be selling approximately 1/3 of this collection in the auction. Some of the outstanding pieces to be auctioned are Colonel Crawford's Sword with good documentation, a wonderful old Flint Lock Rifle (Derringer) built in the 1820's from Philadelphia, some wonderful slate, flint and stone artifacts. There will be approximately 540 lots for the beginner to the most advanced collector. We have done our best to provide potential buyers with as complete and accurate information as possible. These items have been coordinated by Don Jardine, Jim Ritchie, and myself.
