Rago / Wright is proud to present A M?nage with George Platt Lynes, a significant offering of works from the influential photographer, accompanied by art and objects drawn from his milieu?including Man Ray, Jared French, and Paul Cadmus. Currently enjoying a resurgence of institutional attention, Lynes became known in the 1930s and 40s for his portraiture (with subjects including Salvador Dal?, Aldous Huxley, Joan Mir?, and Saul Steinberg) as well as his exquisitely composed and erotically charged gay nude photography. Sent to Paris as a teenager in 1925, Lynes befriended many of the day?s most storied literary and creative figures, among them Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. Later, upon relocating to New York, he would meet the couple who shaped the course of his professional and romantic life: writer Glenway Wescott and publisher Monroe Wheeler. Lynes became a lover to both Wescott and Wheeler, creating a triangle that deeply influenced his emergence as a preeminent photographer amidst the era?s overlapping circles of art, fashion, and literature. Furniture As Described and Arrived in good shape
Wright Auction is amazing and they offer really good examples. The LiveAuctioneers shipping was a bit slow and but fine although I don't really like the use of peanuts for packing because they create a big mess and hassle. Perhaps air pillows would be a lot nicer for the environment and easier to manage.
