A striking group of hand carved wooden whimsies centered on circular and linear ball-in-cage construction. The large ring form example, encloses multiple fee moving spheres, demonstrates exceptional planning and technical control, while the accompanying elongated cage and articulated chain puzzle showcase related solutions to the same mechanical challenge. Together, the works highlight the playful intelligence and problem solving spirit at the heart of American whimsy carving traditions. The circular whimsy form is far less common than verticals.
Good condition. Some of the circular branches have separated.
Size: Circular piece has a 8.75" diameter.
Provenance: Private Florida Collection. Consignor just turned 90 years old and has been collecting his entire life.
