Description
Cast bronze architectural medallion by the Gorham Company, featuring a high-relief American eagle with wings partially spread and head lowered over a shield emblazoned with “C H A C,” surrounded by incised stars and a circular border lettered “COMPLIMENTS OF THE GORHAM CO. ARCHITECTURAL BRONZE,” likely produced in the late 19th to early 20th century as a presentation, commemorative, or architectural sample piece showcasing Gorham’s architectural bronze capabilities; the reverse shows the sculptural depth of the casting with a smooth recessed rim, consistent with foundry work rather than later decorative reproduction. The bronze surface displays an attractive, naturally developed patina with areas of darker oxidation, scattered scuffs, light scratches, and handling wear consistent with age, with no cracks or repairs observed, retaining strong detail throughout the eagle’s feathers, shield, and lettering. Measures 4.75" Diameter.
