(1821 - 1889) Confederate lieutenant general, called 'D.H. Hill' to distinguish him from A.P. Hill, served with distinction in various campaigns of the war but was largely underutilized towards the end of the war due to political feuds with Robert E. Lee and Braxton Bragg. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Charlotte[?], Aug. 1, 1866 to 'J. S. McClelland'. Hill thanks the man for 'the noble stand you took in the General Assembly' in favor of a friend, and refers to him a friend acting as his agent for the Hill's magazine 'The Land We Love' and he hopes his correspondent will be able to assist. Fine condition, matted with a photograph and set into a slightly damaged wood frame.
