(1838 - 1926) Union major general and Indian fighter, commanded of a brigade of the 1st Division of the II Corps, which he led at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg where his men stabilized the line in the Wheatfield. He led the 7th Cavalry at Wounded Knee. T.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Governor’s Island, NY, July 26, 1900, to a bookseller, thanking him for a book on ‘The Spanish Verb’. He signs in black ink at the conclusion. Shows original mailing folds, with archival tape mounting remnants to the verso, otherwise in fine condition.
