"At the Play: Respecfully Inscribed to the Wealth Enterprise & Beauty of California by their faithful friend, Frederick Marriott, July 1879," lithograph on paper, Publisher: San Francisco News Letter California Advertiser, museum inventory no: 40783.1, sight: 24"h x 36"w, overall (with frame): 31"h x 43"w. Note: Rare lithographed montage, circa 1879, depicting some 300 prominent San Franciscans seated in a playhouse from the perspective of the stage. The portraits derive from photographic originals by the noted studio Bradley & Rulofson and were issued by the San Francisco lithography firm Britton & Rey after a design by C. G. Garibaldi, with a dedication by News Letter editor Frederick Marriott. Provenance: Property of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco to Benefit the Acquisition Fund of the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts
