India 1a soldiers and seamans postal stationery envelope written by Staff Sergt William Nicholl, Ordnance Dept., sent from Suakin to Bombay but posted into the Sudan civil post office, the Indian envelope therefore deemed to be invalid and the cover unpaid.Ê The "SAWAKIN" c.d.s. has been applied away from the stamp and a circular "OVERLAND POSTAGE / DUE / AS / 5" charge mark applied, backstamped at Suez, on the Aden-Bombay Sea Post Office and upon arrival at Bombay.Ê An unusual use of this 1a soldiers envelope.
