BLOCK RIFLE. Cal. 256 Win. Mag. S# 3593. Bbl. 26" by McGowen measuring .95" full length except for flare at receiver. Mfg. 1886 with flat mainspring action; matching assembly numbers on tangs. Highly figured stock set with curved borderless fine checkering of the highest order; polished and blued crescent buttplate plus glass bedded forend. The caliber is based on a 357 Mag. case necked to .257" and factory loaded with 60 grain hollow point bullets; notably offered in Marlin Model 62 rifle, Ruger Hawkeye pistol and Universal Ferret carbine. Fitted with Fecker crosshair reticle target scope of about 10 power (unmarked) with serial number 8948; Fecker target rings at proper 7.2" spacing and no recoil spring. Metal surfaces are highly polished with breech block and hammer in the white. CONDITION: exterior of scope shows its age with brown patina, some peppery oxidation and finish loss. Optics are clear with a hint of wave in the horizontal crosswire to the right of center. Buttplate has prior pitting evident under its bluing. Locking lugs of action have grey patina spots visible only with action open. Balance of condition is near excellent with a simply spectacular stock set having two very small dents on left side of buttstock along with an extremely small old chip at top right front. (01-29026/NW). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
