
GERMAN PORCELAIN OCCUPATIONAL BREWER LITHOPHANE STEIN, .5L size, featuring polychrome transfer and hand-painted decorations depicting scenes from a brewery, at center is the brewery guild symbol with brewing tools and grain with the rampart lions on either side, a crowned king above holding a full stemmed glass of beer, at top "Mathias Bitzer", having hinge domed pewter lid with finial depicting a rampart lion against a shield, thumbrest with decorative scrollwork, and lithophane at base of a portrait of King Ludwig II. Early 20th century. 10 1/2" HOA.

From the estate of George Breckner, Jr., gifted to The Butler Museum of American Art, Youngstown, OH, deaccessioned in accordance with museum policy to benefit future acquisitions.
Mostly undamaged, with a small chip to the rim, lid does not sit flush with the rim, and some loss to the transfer print at the foot, likely as made.
