The introduction of a new opaque white significantly expanded the range of colours available to potters. Some of the most technically accomplished fencai wares, as seen in the present lot, were produced during Emperor Yongzheng's reign. This type of dish, made from eggshell-thin porcelain, is known as ruby-back ware due to the pink colour on its exterior.
