
A PAIR OF SHIBAYAMA-INLAID GOLD LACQUER TRAYS By Komin, Meiji period Of oblong octagonal form, decorated with large central panels in mother of pearl, coral and hardstone inlays on a kinji ground, one tray decorated with a parakeet on a stand between a flower vase and a jardiniere, issuing daffodils, hydrangeas, cherry blossoms and peonies, all surrounded by a dense ground of fans, butterflies and scrolling foliage in hiramaki-e; the other tray decorated to the centre with a hawk perched on the stand next to a vase issuing magnolias and prunus, within a similar border, both signed Komin to the underside within an oval panel.
