
A GROUP OF SATSUMA WARE Meiji period Comprising: a tripod koro decorated with shaped panels variously enclosing samurai, a sage, women and children in nature against a dense ground of gilt scrolling foliage, the cover similarly decorated with a chrysanthemum finial, signed Hododa zo; a double gourd vase painted with a procession to the lower section, numerous roundels enclosing geometric and floral patterns to the upper section, the cover with a dense floral ground; a hexagonal box and cover depicting flowers and rockwork, the sides painted with rectangular panels enclosing floral sprays and diaper, the mark on the base effaced; a baluster vase with two panels enclosing ladies playing an instrument and samurai in combat respectively on a midnight blue ground; a saucer dish painted with shaped panels enclosing armed warriors and a mountainous river scene, against a dense ground of butterflies and flowers; a vase flanked by a pair of handles, decorated with figures within variously shaped panels, signed dai nippon satsuma hododa; and a vase with a long slender neck, decorated with panels enclosing a sage and boys.
