A PAIR OF VERY LARGE CARVED SOAPSTONE 'BUDDHIST LIONS' SEALS Republic period Each formed as a rectangular base surmounted by a Buddhist lion with pups clambering over them, the sides incised with poetic inscriptions, the bases carved together creating the inscription: qingxiqianshuixingzhou qideminghuashengkai (rowing through clear, shallow waters; praying for the finest flowers to blossom). 35cm (12 1/2in) high.
