The kiln began production in the Jin dynasty and reached its peak during the Yuan dynasty. The present example is notable for its moulded inscriptions, including Guo yao (郭窯), meaning 'Guo kiln'(likely indicating the specific workshop responsible for its production) and ciqi (瓷器), meaning 'ceramics.' These inscriptions served not only as decorative elements but also as a form of branding, promoting the kiln owner. Such marketing practices were widely adopted by many commercial kilns during the Song and Jin periods as a means of competing in the marketplace and expanding their distribution. For a similar white-glazed bowl of the Jin dynasty, see the example in the Palace Museum, Beijing (acc.no.新00073631). Compare with a Ding-type lobed dish and a Huozhou kiln white-glazed moulded dish, Song/Jin dynasty, which were sold at Bonhams London, 10 November 2025, lot 513.
