The present example is, however, highly unusual in its conception, featuring twin spouts and an interior divided into two separate chambers, allowing different infusions to be poured from a single vessel. A comparable double-form teapot in Yixing stoneware, together with a Western copy, was recorded in the collection of Augustus the Strong, Elector of Saxony (r.1694-1733), and is preserved in the Zwinger Collection, Dresden, attesting to the fascination such inventive forms held for early European collectors. See a very similar famille verte double-sided porcelain teapot, late 17th early 18th century, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (79.2.1317a,b), formerly in the collection of Samuel Putnam Avery Sr., and a very similar example partly decorated in underglaze blue, illustrated in Ancient Chinese Trade Ceramics from the Musées Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, Bruxelles, Taipei, 1992, no.92.
