
A BLUE AND WHITE 'SCHOLARS' TEAPOT AND COVER Xuande six-character mark, circa 1640 The globular body supported on a short slightly inward-tapering foot and tapering neck, applied with a loop handle and straight spout, the slightly domed cover surmounted by a finial, the body painted with two shaped panels enclosing a scene of an official holding a flower before a kneeling gentleman and lady, the other side with a scene of another scholar kneeling before a high official, interspersed with floral scrolls, the cover similarly decorated. 13cm (5 1/8in) wide.
