A review of Archive of the Imperial Workshops at the Hall of Mental Cultivation's Production Records (養心殿造辦處各作成做活計檔) reveals multiple references to the Jiangxi Superintendent of Imperial Kilns, Nian Xiyao, submitting high-quality unglazed porcelain to the Imperial lacquer workshop for the production of porcelain-bodied lacquerware. The overall production of porcelain-bodied lacquer wares decorated with mother-of-pearl is estimated to have exceeded 200 pieces.
