The design of the spiralling bands recalls glassmaking techniques, particularly those associated with the late 16th century Venetian latticino glassware, though it was not necessarily copied directly from an Italian original. Venetian glass was widely imitated in northern Europe in the 17th century and continued in practice into the 18th century. The present lot may have been inspired by a Dutch glass reinterpretation of a Venetian model.
