
A 'GREEN DRAGON' SAUCER-DISH Kangxi six-character mark and of the period Enamelled at the centre in green detailed with black scales as a coiling five-clawed dragon in profile pursuing a flaming pearl amongst fire trails, the exterior decorated with two similar dragons in pursuit of flaming peals on a ground incised with waves. 17.7cm (7in) diam. The design of green dragons on a white ground first emerged during the Chenghua reign of the Ming dynasty and became a classic design of the Imperial kilns throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties.
