In the present lot, it stands amid bamboo and rock, emblems of humility and steadfastness and thus embodying the Confucian ideals of the gentleman. The bird is crisply defined through the carving of the material's brown skin, its tone akin to the snuff once held within, gradually revealed as the contents were used.
