
A CHALCEDONY SHADOW AGATE 'BO LE AND HORSE' SNUFF BOTTLE 18th/19th century The rounded square body rising from a short foot to a cylindrical neck, the honey-toned stone mottled throughout with brown inclusions, the darker ones on the front side creatively used to depict a figure, likely Bo Le, approaching a horse by a wind-blown willow tree, stopper. 6.1cm (2 3/8in) high. He thus came to symbolise talent recognition, particularly the identification of ability for government service during the Qing dynasty.
