Description
Substantial mid-century / MCM 18 karat white gold aquamarine and diamond cocktail ring, circa 1950–60s, centered with a large pale blue modified round brilliant-cut aquamarine measuring approximately 15 × 9 mm and weighing approximately 12.5 carats.
The aquamarine is raised in a prominent prong-set basket and surrounded by 12 round brilliant-cut diamonds, individually prong-set in an open gallery. The diamonds graduate visually around the center stone, measuring approximately 2.5–7 mm, creating a bright dimensional halo around the aquamarine.
The mounting is highly architectural, with an elevated pierced gallery and split-wire shoulders rising into the head of the ring. The open circular under-gallery and repeated looped supports are characteristic of mid-century cocktail ring construction, giving the piece height, lightness, and strong profile while still retaining substantial gold weight.
Executed in 18K white gold, the ring weighs approximately 15 grams, giving it a notably solid hand feel. The design combines scale, openwork construction, and dramatic gemstone presentation, consistent with statement jewelry of the 1950s–1960s.
