(Qty.) picture frame height 9in Footnotes: Diane Keaton made her film directorial debut with Unstrung Heroes, based on Franz Lidz's memoir of the same name. The story of the young boy whose mother is diagnosed with ovarian cancer touched Diane, especially when the young character creates a memorial of his mother by filling a box of her belongings. She recounted in her memoir Then Again, 'finding redemption through documentation was particularly moving to me...it was almost as if Franz Lidz was telling us that items, possessions, even stuff, could make up for the mercurial comings and goings of love' (Keaton, Diane. Then Again. New York: Random House, 2011, page 196). Unstrung Heroes was selected for Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival and received well critically, and Diane remarked, 'I'm more acutely aware of how nearly impossible it is to make a good film.'
