The "Transylvanian“ carpets of the 17th / 18th centuries are workshop pieces woven in West Anatolia. In terms of their structure, materials, palette and designs they constitute a closed, albeit heterogeneous, group exhibiting specific particularities, including technical ones. This rug is not one of them, even though its composition closely resembles certain Transylvanian carpets. An open red shield form enclosing a small white central medallion lies in the blue field. Rosettes are arranged around it along the sides, while large saz leaves and carnations are placed at both ends. The wide white main border shows star-shaped blossoms and carnations interspersed with short diagonal hyacinths. This coarsely woven rug is a village product. The brilliant and diverse colours indicate a provenance in South West Anatolia, probably the Dazkiri region.
