Description - 'Singing Bird', 2007, temporary removable tattoo, by Tracey Emin. From an edition of 1500 issued at the Venice Biennale in 2007 as a giveaway, distributed by the British Consulate as a gift to attendees of the Venice Biennale in 2007.
The number of temporary tatoos that remain in good unused condition is unknown, no one knows how many complete examples are still in circulation and existence.
Original Lithograph issued as a temporary tattoo. No commercial edition was ever released; therefore, Emin's 'Singing Bird' is a highly desirable collector's item. Themes in her work include depictions of women masturbating or engaging in sexual acts, as well as birds as symbols of freedom.
Emins, is known for her deeply personal and emotionally charged works Singing bird, for the Biennale Venice exhibition is typical of her bold and provocative artistic style.
Tracey Emin relatively unknown internationally represented the UK at the Venice Biennale in 2007 with the exhibition ‘Borrowed Light’ and exhibited her seminal and early work. She was elected to the Royal Academy in the same year.
Emin was appointed Professor of Drawing at The Royal College of Art, London, and in 2012 Queen Elizabeth II appointed her Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her contributions to the visual arts.
Emin belongs to the group of artists known as the Britartists or the YBAs (Young British Artists) along with Gavin Turk, Damien Hirst and David Shrigley.
