A Continental Gothic Style Halberd
(Likely German, Swiss, or Bavarian, 16th Century)
Class I-A style socket head with thrusting spike, axe blade, and beak. Top of axe blade features four half round chiseled cutaways or sword breakers, as well as chiseled double piercings to both blade and beak. Socket is attached to lacquered wood shaft with iron straps and a total of 12 rivets (six to each side). There are also two bell shaped brass escutcheons fitted under top rivets on both sides of socket head, appearing to be stamped with four tombstone shaped marks on each escutcheon. There are no visible armorer marks, inscriptions, etchings, or royal ciphers, etc.
Length overall 80 1/2 inches.

Scattered pit marks and mottled losses to finish overall on socket head. Some small cracks to corners of socket. Scratches and scattered losses overall to shaft. Darkened discoloration/patina around rivets and to tight spaces.
