This card stands out among baseball card collectors for being the first Topps card to feature Willie Mays. Fondly known as the "Say Hey" kid, for his youthfulness, exuberant style of play, and his habit of greeting people with the phrase "Say Hey." Mays remains widely regarded as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. Born on May 6, 1931, in Westfield, Alabama, he played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball, primarily for the New York and San Francisco Giants. Mays was an exceptional all-around talent, a dynamic hitter, an outstanding fielder and a base-running threat. He hit 660 home runs, earned 12 Gold Gloves and was a 24-time All-Star. Mays’ iconic over-the-shoulder catch in the 1954 World Series remains one of the most famous moments in baseball history. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.
