This game-used bat from Gary Carter dates to the 1988 season and reflects the specifications and use characteristics associated with Carter’s equipment. The knob is marked with “8” in marker for his uniform number, along with “113A” (model), “226” (batch), and “8” denoting the 1988 season. The bat displays wide grain across the barrel and shows pronounced use concentrated on the left side, consistent with Carter’s tendency to strike the ball on one side of the barrel. Visible are black National League ball marks, numerous stitch impressions, and scattered spike marks. The handle features a heavy application of pine tar, further consistent with Carter’s in-game preferences. The bat has been signed boldly in blue at the barrel. "The best" has been added in black at the first third of the barrel in an unknown hand.
