One of the iconic cards in sports collecting is the World Wide Gum Babe Ruth #80 card, featuring the Bambino in full swing on the facing side. The World Wide Gum card is the Canadian counterpart to the American Goudey set, and is found in much lower populations. The World Wide Gum Babe Ruth #80 has been graded only 118 times by PSA, while the American Goudey #144 (visually identical on the facing side) has been graded 1810 times by PSA. The Canadian variation offered here is marked, "World Wide Gum Co, LTD. Montreal", on the reverse bottom edge and "Printed in Canada". This particular example has remained in a single family for its entire existence and was recently found and graded by PSA.
Size
5.5" x 3.5".
Condition
The card received a recent grade of 1.5 Fair (MK) from PSA. The MK designation is due to a paint pencil mark indicating Ruth's position "RF" on the right central third. The card's surface is crease-free and presents extremely well. Imperfect corners and a scuff to "Chewing Gum" on the bottom right corner, and a scuff to the reverse bottom left quarter explain the 1.5 grade.
