The 2-ounce sterling silver medallion would have been issued to players, coaches, and VIP's who were involved in the 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series. The medal is housed in a striking Canada-U.S.S.R. blue carrying case. Also included is a seldom-seen iron-on transfer from the series produced by Red Rose and an original $2 program. The 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series was an eight-game ice hockey competition between Canada and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) held from September 2 to September 28, 1972. The series, which was the first official meeting between the two countries' top players, became a historic and intensely competitive showdown, ultimately won by Team Canada. The series is best remembered for Paul Henderson's game-winning goal in the last 34 seconds of the final game - a goal widely regarded as a defining moment in international hockey history. Coin is marked with Ser. No. 00209. All items are guaranteed authentic by Miller & Miller Auctions.
