
THREE MIXED-METAL TSUBA (HAND GUARDS) Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century Comprising a Hamano-school oval shakudō migakiji tsuba chiseled in sunken and low relief and inlaid in gold and copper with Kan'u (Chinese: Guanyu) and an attendant reading a scroll, the reverse with a horse tethered to a pine tree, inscribed Hamano Noriyuki; a nearly circular shibuichi ishimeji tsuba chiseled in sunken and and low relief and inlaid of gold and silver with a boatman on a body of water beneath flying geese and a full moon obscured by clouds, signed Shigemitsu; and a nearly circular shibuichi migakiji tsuba decorated with irises in gold takazōgan and chiseled in kebori, signed Nakayama Mitsuyoshi Each with a wood tomobako storage box 2 7/8in (7.3cm) high, the largest (3).
