
THREE KO-KINKŌ SHAKUDŌ TSUBA (HAND GUARDS) Edo period (1615-1868), 19th century Comprising an oval tsuba with a raised rim and a bold ishimeji ground decorated in iro-e takazōgan with scattered seashells in swirling waters; accompanied by a Tokubetsu Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Especially Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.224224 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated April 14, 1998; a circular tsuba with raised rim with a nanako ground chiseled and inlaid in gold and shakudō takazōgan with a panoramic view of the Sumiyoshi Shrine; the storage box bearing an attestation written by Dr. Torigoe Kazutarō; and a circular tsuba with an ishimeji ground pierced with two large namako-shaped hitsu and inlaid in silver takazōgan with peony vines and maple leaves afloat on a stream; accompanied by a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.448085 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated June 22, 2004 Each with a wood tomobako storage box 3 1/4in (8.3cm) high, the largest (3).
