
FOUR SHAKUDŌ TSUBA (HAND GUARDS) Momoyama (1573-1615) and Edo (1615-1868) period, 17th and 19th century Comprising a Mito Gotō-school shakudō nanakoji oval tsuba inlaid with rabbits running on water, in gold takazōgan; a rounded rectangular ko-kinkō shakudō nankoji tsuba with a raised rim, inlaid in copper and gilt with flower buds and branches, the seppa-dai engraved with vines; accompanied by a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.447448 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated February 22, 2005; an oval ko-kinkō shakudō tsuba with a stamped rinzu ground, chiseled and inlaid in gold with sugina (field horsetails) and formal lightning patterns; accompanied by a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.438628 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated February 22, 1999; and an oval Hamano-school shakudō tsuba chiseled in relief and inlay of gold, silver, and copper with Kōsekikō and Chōryō examining a calligraphic scroll among rocks with clouds above, signed Kokidō Hamano Seijō with a kaō; accompanied by a Hozon Tōsōgu (Sword Fitting Worthy of Preservation) certificate no.423102 issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword), dated July 25, 1990 Each with a wood tomobako storage box 3in (7.6cm) high, the largest (7).
