
TWO WAKIZASHI IN MOUNTS AND A TANTŌ IN MOUNTS Edo period (1615-1868), 18th-19th century The first honzukuri, iorimune, kogissaki with a slight toriizori curvature, forged in itamehada with a suguha tempered edge and a komaru bōshi, the osuriage tang with three holes (one plugged) and indistinct file marks, 19in (48.3cm) long, with a one-piece gilt habaki; the koshira-e comprising a black-lacquer saya decorated with swirling clouds mounted with silver fittings chiseled with clouds, the silver kozuka decorated with roundels with shakudō Sanskrit characters against a gilt nanako ground, the reverse chiseled with swirling clouds, the tsuka wrapped in black silk over same and fitted with shakudō and gilt menuki formed as shishi (mythical Chinese lions) and a silver trapezoidal tsuba chiseled with crashing waves; the second honzukuri, iorimune, chūgissaki, toriizori forged in itamehada with a broad suguha tempered edge, ending in a komaru bōshi, the ubu tang with two holes (overlapping), kessho file marks, signed Jūri no kami Terukane and dated Kansei yonnen san gatsu (Third month of 1792), 16 1/4in (41.2cm,) long, with a one-piece gilt habaki; the koshira-e comprising a black-lacquer saya decorated with the articles of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune in gold, silver, and brown togidashi maki-e, the upper section of the saya ribbed, fitted with a shibuichi migakiji kozuka chiseled with Jurojin, inscribed Gyōnen rokujūroku Masayuki, the tsuka wrapped in blue cotton over same and fitted with shakudō fuchi-gashira decorated with Hotei and Fukurokuju in shishiaibori and gilt, inscribed Gyōnen rokujūroku Masayuki and gilt, silver and shakudō menuki formed as Hotei and Daikoku, the oval shakudo migakiji tsuba chiseled with two scholars reading a scroll and with a sea bream, the highlights in gold, inscribed Gyōnen rokujūgo Masayuki; the third hirazukuri, iorimune forged in koitame hada with a gunome midare tempered edge ending in a komaru bōshi, chiseled with bōhi on both sides, the ubu tang with two holes, signed Kanenori, with a one-piece copper habaki, 12 1/4in (31.1cm) long; the koshira-e comprising a black-lacquer saya with alternating bands of ribs and ginpun, fitted with brass mounts decorated with taka-no-ha crests, fitted with wari-kogai 24 1/2in (62.2cm) long overall, the largest (3).
