
YAMATO TEGAI LINEAGE A Jūyō-Ranked Katana with Mounts with Gotō-School Fittings Nanbokuchō period (1333-1392), 14th century Sugata (configuration): honzukuri, iorimune, chū-gissaki, shallow toriizori Kitae (forging pattern): itamehada with some masamehada in jinie Hamon (tempering pattern): narrow suguha with slight notare based in nioi with hotsure, uchinoke, sunagashi, and nie Boshi (tip): suguha Nakago (tang): ō-suriage with katte sagari file marks and one hole Habaki (collar): Nagasa (length from tip to beginning of tang): 28 1/2in (72.4cm) Motohaba (width at start of tempered edge): 1 1/4in (3.2cm) Sakihaba (width before tip): 7/8in (2.2cm) In a shirasaya (wood storage scabbard) with sayagaki; the 19th-century koshira-e comprising a black-lacquer saya decorated with family crests in gold hiramaki-e and fitted with a gold kojiri and kozukaguchi chiseled with burrow designs and applied with shakudō crests, the shakudō nanako kozuka and kōgai applied with gilt coiling dragons in high-relief, signed Gotō Eijō and with a kaō, the tsuka wrapped in black silk over same and fitted with gold fuchi-gashira decorated to match the saya hardware, signed on the fuchi in gold inlay Gotō Tokujō, the gold and silver menuki formed as courtier's hats and chrysanthemum scroll, the think, shakudō plate tsuba chiseled on the surface with matching burrow pattens and applied with gold family crests, the gilt rim finished in nanako, signed in gold inlay, Gotō Tokujō (3).
