
A SUE-MIHARA TANTŌ WITH MOUNTS Muromachi period (1333-1573), 16th century Of hirazukuri configuration forged in flowing itamehada with a narrow suguha tempered edge based in nie with some sungashi, the komaru bōshi with a short return, the ubu tang with one hole, 7 3/4in (19.7cm) long, with a one-piece copper habaki, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard; the 19th-century aikuchi koshira-e comprising a black-lacquer ishimeji saya fitted with a copper kozuka, the hardware all copper migakiji, including a kojiri, koiguchi, kozukaguchi and fuchi-gashira, the tsuka wrapper in same and fitted with gilt-copper menuki formed as a figure carrying baskets of young bamboo (3).
