
NORIHIRO (DATES UNKNOWN) A Shintō Wakizashi with Mounts Momoyama (1573-1615) or Edo (1615-1868) period, 16th/17th century The slender blade of honzukuri, iorimune configuration with a chū-gissaki and toriizori curvature forged in running itamehada amd with a notare and gunome tempered edge based in nioi, the ubu tang with one hole, katte sagari file marks, and signed Norihiro, with a one-piece gilt habaki, 12 3/4in (32.4cm) long, in a wood shirasaya storage scabbard; the koshira-e comprising a ribbed saya of lacquered same lacquer polished so the nodules form a smooth surface, fitted with a shakudō kozuka decorated with a paulownia tree in low relief and a sunken reserve with a phoenix chiseled in bold relief, with highlights in gold, the tsuka wrapped in light blue silk over same and fitted with a shakudō nanako fuchi decorated with paulownia crests in gold takazōgan, and a gold and shakudō kashira formed as a kabuto (helmet), the gold and shakudō menuki decorated with autumn plants, with an oval silver tsuba finished with a knotted-rope rim 20in (50.8cm) long overall (3).
