
BIZEN SUKESADA AND ATTRIBUTED TO KANŌ NATSUO A Tantō with Fine Aikuchi Mounts Edo period (1615-1868), 17th and 9th century The tantō blade of morohazukuri configuration, forged in itamehada with a toranba tempered edge with sections turning yahazu ending in a komaku bōshi with a long return, the ubu tang with two holes, signed Bizen Osafune no jūnin Yokoyama Kozuke Daijō Fujiwara Sukesada, 8 1/4in (21cm) long, with a two-piece gold-foil habaki In a black-lacquer saya fitted with a silver koiguchi and kojiri formed as chrysanthemum leaves, and plain wood tsuka With a wood storage box, and a separate maki-e lacquer handle and saya scabbard. The aikuchi goshira-e comprising a black-lacquer saya and tsuka decorated with a variety of chrysanthemums blossoms in gold, red, silver, and black togidashi maki-e with highlights of hirame, the silver hardware in cluding fuchi-gashira, koiguchi, and kojiri all chiseled with chrysanthemum blossoms and leaves, the fuchi stamped with an illegible mark, the tantō tsuba formed as a chrysanthemum, inscribed Kiku goshira-e ni urushi senkō saku (Chrysanthemum lacquer scabbard, made by my late father), and signed Akio With a double wood storage box and an origami (document) written by Kano Akio, (Natsuo's third son) attesting that the koshira-e was made by Natsuo, dated September, 1926 13 1/4in (33.6cm) long, the koshira-e (3).
